best lush products for marathon recovery (vegan & cruelty-free)

Posted byNicole Whittle Posted onApril 19, 2026 Comments0

As a long-time Lush fan who’s actually run a marathon, I’ve learned the hard way that recovery isn’t just about protein shakes and electrolytes. Yes, refuelling matters, but what you do after the run – in the shower, in the bath – matters just as much! So here are the Lush products that saved me after 26.2 miles. All vegan, cruelty free, and exactly what you need from finish line to bath time.

dream cream (for chafing, irritation & general chaos)

Post-marathon skin is not fun. Chafing, dryness, redness… this is all part of the experience.

Dream Cream is the one you want within arm’s reach. It’s designed to soothe irritated, sensitive skin and it really delivers after a long run. Packed with lavender and chamomile, plus over 30% oat milk, it’s deeply calming and absorbs easily without feeling heavy.

Lush infuse oats to create a gentle oat milk base, then layer in as many soothing ingredients as possible. The result is a lotion that’s clinically proven to be suitable for sensitive and eczema-prone skin – exactly the kind of energy your body needs after a marathon.

‘after’ massage bar (for aching muscles)

When your legs feel like they may just fall off, this is where you start!

Lush do a lot of massage bars, but this After one is specifically formulated for workout recovery. It’s a heavenly trio magnesium, witch hazel and arnica. Just glide it over sore areas (calves, quads, even shoulders!), and it helps ease tension while giving your muscles a bit of attention they’ve definitely earned.

It’s low effort, high reward – even better if you can get a partner or friend to help! Exactly what you want when even standing feels tough.

bath bombs (for the full reset)

What Lush guide would be complete without a couple of bath bombs thrown in? Honestly though, one thing you want after a long run is a big cosy soak, so make sure you supercharge yours! Here’s two recommendations to pick between:

magik bath bomb

CBD and Epsom salts work like, well, Magik. This is a deeply restorative soak: over 40% Epsom salts, plus CBD and shiitake mushroom powder. It turns your bath into a magnesium-rich pool that helps your muscles unwind while your mind slowly catches up. Perfect if you’re not just physically tired, but mentally drained too.

salt water soother

This Salt Water Soother in my own bathroom cabinet waiting for me post race! Peppermint, spearmint and eucalyptus oils give that refreshing, slightly tingly lift. Paired with Epsom salts, it softens the water and helps ease muscle tension without feeling too heavy.

Not my favourite scent, I won’t lie. But it works so well I don’t even care. I can’t be without it!

magic crystals body scrub (for legs that need reviving)

Day-two routine starts here! Magic Crystals is part scrub, part sensory experience. It combines Epsom salts and fine sea salts to exfoliate, with mint oils and menthol crystals that leave your skin feeling cold in the best possible way.

There’s fresh sage infusion in there too, and the whole thing feels like it’s sweeping away that heavy, sluggish feeling in your legs.

It’s not gentle, but at this point, you don’t want gentle.

final thoughts

Marathon recovery isn’t just about what you eat, it’s about how you look after your body afterwards, too.

From finish line to bath time, building a proper recovery routine (that you actually look forward to!) makes the whole experience feel a lot less punishing and a lot more… worth it.

Hope that helps! Look after yourself and good luck with your run!
