Go Organ(y)c for a Better Period [ad]

It’s funny how with age we go from hating talking about periods to absolutely bloody loving it. Not only is there something liberating in talking breezily about panty liners, you suddenly start to question things. Until I started talking to my friends about tampons I hadn’t realised they were not for flushing down the toilet. Yup, I’ve been eco-conscious since my tweens but only stopped flushing tampons down the loos in my twenties.

So today we’re going to talk frankly about why you should switch to organic tampons.

Today’s post is sponsored by Organ(y)c.

Why Organ(y)c?

100% fair, Organic Cotton

Organ(y)c uses only 100% certified organic cotton which is far kinder to your body and our planet. You’d be shocked by some of the materials that can be found in mainstream menstrual products – wood pulp, bamboo, bleach, fragrances and even chlorine.

We only believe in using 100% pure certified organic cotton in all of our products. All of our tampons are made from 100% organic cotton, even the string is made from organic cotton. Our pads and panty liners contain an absorbent core made from 100% organic cotton along with a 100% organic cotton top sheet with a protective layer created from mater-bi.

Organ(y)c FAQs

The cotton used is certified by GOTS – this ensures no chemicals, pesticides or GMO’s are used and that all farmers/workers throughout the whole process are treated and paid fairly.

better for sensitive skin

A recent study found that 90% of women saw reduced skin irritation in just three months after switching to organic menstrual products like Organ(y)c. Definitely worth a switch if you find yourself feeling irritated or dry after using pads or tampons.

ECO AND VEGAN

Not only are Organ(y)c suitable for vegans, the packaging is biodegradable/compostable as it’s made from mater-bi and corn starch materials, along with recycled cardboard.

Shockingly, conventional tampons can take up to 500 years to decompose whereas 100% organic cotton tampons and pads can biodegrade naturally much faster. Organic cotton is also safer for the environment as the crop builds soil fertility, helping to lock in CO2 – a big benefit in the battle against climate change. As the cotton is a natural fibre, it doesn’t leave any microfibres which can pollute the environment/ocean once it has biodegraded.

Delivered to Your Schedule

There is nothing worse than running out of tampons. When I first decided to make the switch to organic tampons I headed to my health foods shop and stocked up. Everything was great. Until I ran out and then I’d have to hurriedly get some on my way to work. Suddenly my new ethics and rules melted away as I had to choose between whatever I could get at Sainsbury’s or bleeding on my desk chair. Which is exactly why I’m happier getting mine in the post.

a monthly arrival you can get excited about
  1. Select your products. Pads? Tampons? Heavy? Light? Whatever suits you!
  2. Make it a date. Choose when you want your products to arrive. I like mine to arrive a week before I’m due. They arrive with plenty of time to spare, but not so long I forget where I’ve put the box.
  3. Relax. You’ve got 100% organic products set to deliver on time and straight through your letterbox.

Not sure what to choose?

It’s hard to know exactly what you use each month. Whilst you can build your ideal box, they also have some pre-set ‘go with the flow’ boxes to choose from. There’s no minimum order period – perfectly commitment-free.

How do the products work?

I use pads and tampons alongside a menstrual cup. That’s because I love to sleep in pads when I have a lighter flow, have tampons to spare in my bag just in case and use panty liners when I’m not sure if it’s all over yet.

PADS, PANTY LINERS AND TAMPONS OH MY

When I’ve tried other eco-friendly pads before I’ve noticed some struggle to stick. Thankfully not the issue here! There’s no worse feeling than a loose pad in your knickers. I only use pads overnight so can’t say how they cope with too much action – but positive reviews from me!

I also grabbed some panty liners which I like to use at the end of my period. For that phase when you think it’s over but you still get a little bit of sporadic blood. These work great and I can confirm the stick on these can stand the test of everyday life.

No more popping out to the shop

I also love an applicator less tampon (as pictured), but Organ(y)c do sell tampons with applicators as well. Their applicators are made from plant-based materials – perfect if you like easy insertion without any plastic guilt. Tampons are particularly intimate products – they really go in you. When I first switched from conventional to organic tampons I did notice a big reduction in cramps. So hopefully, if that’s something you suffer from (even mildly!), a change to organic will help you too.
