Vegan Travel: Deal Seaside, Kent
Sometimes it can be so nice to get away. Over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend my boyfriend and I headed to Deal, Kent to spend some time with his family. As with all Bank Holidays, the weather wasn’t the greatest. However, there was plenty of home cooked food and seaside dog walks. Read on to find out why Deal is a great short break from the city and what great vegan options are available in the beautiful seaside town.

Under 2 Hours Away from London
The train service from Stratford International can be as fast as an hour and a half or just over 2 hours from Charing Corss. There are some lovely views along the way, including Dover castle.
Vegan Friendly Chinese Takeaway
We had a huge family dinner on the Friday where my boyfriend’s mum served me a delicious 3 course meal, including a wonderful mushroom risotto. Rightfully, by Saturday night she was far keener to order a takeaway than serve another big dinner. The local Chinese (Hey Hey, also found via Happy Cow) were more than happy to ensure my order was vegan and delivered me Tofu Satay with boiled rice and vegetable spring rolls. If it’s up your street do order
Vegan Battered Sausage
Along the sea front, check out Walmer Fish & Chips where they serve battered and deep fried Linda McCartney sausages, as well as chips and battered pineapple. All of their foods are fried in vegetable oil. I found this surprise vegan option through Happy Cow, a super useful website/app for travelling vegans.

Beautiful Beach Walks
Deal doesn’t have the tourist pull of other seaside towns like Brighton and Blackpool, so you can slip into the community rather than feel like a tourist. This meant a quiet beach, perfect for walking the family dog. Just sitting on the pebbles and listening to the waves felt like a small piece of paradise.
In Summary
I had a wonderful weekend. Highlights were enjoying some time in good company, dinner with the grandparents where they’d ensured all the wine was vegan friendly and taking the family pet on walks. Whilst I love city life, there’s something so serene about the slower pace and fresher air that can be found just that little bit out of the city.
