Lush Slap Stick Foundation Review

The Lush Slap Stick Foundation might be eco-friendly, plastic-free and vegan … but it’s also a bit weird. This egg shaped, wax dipped foundation might seem a bit intimidating for those who like their old, reliable beauty products – but it’s definitely worth trying! It’s a beautiful product that helps your skin look great whilst reducing your impact on the planet.

These Slap Sticks are revolutionary as they’re an incredible, plastic-free alternative to conventional foundation. The stick is partially dipped in peelable wax which acts as a type of handle, and then stored in a cardboard box to keep in clean and in good condition.

Vegan, Cruelty Free & 40 Shades!

Like every Lush product, you can trust that this is truly cruelty-free (no animal testing anywhere in the process). This formula is also suitable for vegans – including the wax!

They’ve also made sure to create a full foundation collection. Whilst most green beauty brands create small beige-centric foundation ranges, Lush has launched with 40 shades (also with warm and cool undertones) to cater for every complexion.

How does it wear?

Finding your shade

If you’re lucky enough to live near a Lush store that stocks makeup, it’d be best to go in store and play about with the foundations to find your perfect shade. Otherwise, you can chat to the team on their website and let them know what foundation you currently use – they’ll be able to find your Lush shade based on that!

I’m shade 12W and it suits me wonderfully. I absolutely love how easy they make it to shop their foundations – particularly when it comes to undertones!

How to apply

One of the biggest challenges of this foundation is blending it out – it’s not difficult once you know how, but it’s requires a different approach to liquid foundations. I really like to make sure that I have a very moisturised face before applying. This makes it easier to spread and blend the foundation.

It’s really creamy and lightweight – you can build this foundation from light to medium but go any further than that and you’re likely to get creases later on in the day. I love the natural look of this on my skin – sure the coverage isn’t flawless but that’s not what I need from this product.

Does it suit oily/dry skin?

I have combination skin – so I can tell you how this foundation reacts with my dry patches and with my oily t-zone as the day goes on.

Personally, I think this is better suited to oily skin. I understand why you’d be hesitant – particularly with the coconut oil in this product! – but this foundation seems to work with oily skin, not against it. That’s not to say you don’t need to finish things off with a setting poweder, but you won’t have any weird separation or shine issues with this foundation!

On the other hand, this product might be difficult to blend properly on dry skin. It definitely gathers in dry patches, but it’s not one of the worse foundations for this. It’s a pretty standard performance against dry skin.
