Sustainable Underwear
When you decide to live life a bit more ethically, you don’t quite anticipate just how many different areas of your life that impacts. However, one day you’ll be looking for some new knickers and think fuck, can this be done more sustainably?
Here’s a couple of things to think about:
The Materials
As with any item of clothing, materials are super important. If you’re vegan, like me, and looking to avoid animal derived ingredients – you’ll want to avoid silk. Sadly, around 3,000 silkworms are killed just to make a single pound of silk. But, don’t worry, there are tonnes of vegan-friendly materials to look out for:
- It’s so important to buy organic cotton over regular cotton – for healthier soil, no polluting pesticides and better/less water usage.
- Brands like Woron use modal which is a beechwood pulp fiber – it’s a beautiful, soft, breathable fabric.
- Recycled lace offers the same fine features as conventional lace but is actually a bit softer as the material has been processed several times.
Fair Wages
We’re the generation of shoppers who aren’t afraid to ask who made my clothes? It’s only natural that extends to who made my knickers? A traceable supply chain and fair wages throughout is what we expect of brands. Here are some ethical lingerie brands that offer transparency on their manufacturing and makers:
