i went on LBC to defend veganism!
So… the Greens are thinking about making vegan options a legal requirement in certain settings and somehow I got the call asking if I’d come onto LBC to represent the vegan point of view. Needless to say, the didn’t have to ask twice!

Honestly, there was so much I prepared for and yet the conversation somehow ended up lingering on some of the most wonderfully chaotic vegan questions. Apparently we’re still debating whether a vegan diet can be balanced and whether chips count as vegan food. (They do.)
But anyway, I went in with one main goal and that was: to have fun. I am SO bored of vegans being painted as humourless, self-sacrificing killjoys who survive exclusively on lentils and moral superiority. I wanted people listening to think, “Oh… she’s actually quite normal” and rethink whether veganism might actually be for them.
I genuinely had a great time chatting to Iain. We disagreed on plenty, but it never felt hostile. If anything, the conversation became more open as it went on. My favourite moment was probably discovering he’d actually considered going vegan himself for health reasons before a partner convinced him otherwise. I mean… COME ON. If that’s not proof that loads of people are curious about veganism, even if they don’t stick with it, I don’t know what is.
I’ve always said the biggest barrier isn’t that people hate veganism. It’s that most people don’t really understand it. They think vegan food is some weird niche diet when, in reality, half the country already gets excited about chips, beans on toast and accidentally vegan snacks without thinking twice. But that’s why I love opportunities like this. Not because I expect a ten-minute radio interview to turn the nation vegan, but because every normal conversation chips away at the stereotypes a little bit more. If one person listening walked away thinking, “Actually… vegans aren’t quite what I expected,” then I’d call that a success.
Anyway… if you’ve already seen the clips doing the rounds on Instagram or TikTok (thank you ❤️), you can now watch the full interview below.
I’d love to know what you think!
