Alas, Veganuary has passed, as has the Vegan Beauty Challenge (VBC). A big thank you to all those that took part and engaged with the VBC emails and posts over the course of January – we’ve got a good feeling that the challenge will be back in 2021.

Until then you can sign up to the Vegan Beauty Girl newsletter, which includes the latest updates from the Vegan Beauty Girl channels – as well as competitions and giveaways!

2020 is already shaping up to be an incredible year as there are some really exciting projects on the horizon. But for now, here’s a roundup of all the latest news from the vegan beauty scene.

Vaganury Breaks Records & Beats Targets

Confirmed figures for the 2020 Veganuary campaign state that a little over 400,000 people signed up to go vegan for the first month of the year. This is an incredible increase from the 250,000 people that pledged to try veganism in 2019 and beats the campaigns’ own target of 350,000.

We’re changing the world people!

Lush Launches Koala Soap to Support Wildlife Affected by Bushfires

Lush (a Vegan Beauty Girl favourite!) have launched a new Koala-shaped soap to raise money for Australian wildlife. The wildfires have been tearing through the country since September 2019.

All The Wild Things Soap

As cute as the soap is, we must remember that the crisis in Australia is a result of climate change. A United Nations report (published 22nd January), stated: “An estimated billion animals, and many more bats and insects, are likely to die in total over the coming weeks and months as a result of lost habitat and food sources.“

M&S Relaunches New Skincare Range

The new vegan & cruelty-free PURE collection is formulated with 95% naturally derived ingredients. It focuses on fewer but more effective ingredients, such as Starflower Oil, Resveratrol and Blackcurrant Seed Oil. Many of which are grown in the UK or are simply by-products of English wine produced for M&S.

Cheers to that!

Dove Aims for 100% Recycled Plastic Bottles by 2025

The Unilever-owned brand has announced plans to become more sustainable by incorporating 100% post-consumer recycled plastic into its products. Whilst Dove aren’t a brand Vegan Beauty Girl supports (as Unilever aren’t vegan or CF), we want to celebrate their announcement to be more sustainable.

Kat Von D Quits KVD Beauty

Tattoo artist Kat Von D sold her shares in her beauty company, Kat Von D Beauty, which rebranded as KVD Vegan Beauty. Von D ran her beauty brand in partnership with its parent company, Kendo. Whilst Kendo are a cruelty-free company, they’re owned by another parent company called LVMH, who are not cruelty-free.

Confused? We don’t blame you! That’s why we’ve put together a blog post to help you better understand whether or not KVD are vegan & CF. You can read ‘Is KVD Vegan Beauty still Cruelty-Free?‘ by clicking here.

Botanics Awarded Leaping Bunny Approval by CFI

the Boots range is officially cruelty-free!

Cruelty Free International have awarded skincare brand, Botanics, their Leaping Bunny status. The certification applies to each and every one of their products. Botanics stated in a press release that: “All Botanics products are human tested, cruelty-free, suitable for vegans and sourced from sustainable ingredients, and steps are taken at every single stage of the product journey to reduce their environmental impact.”

Luneia Launch New Radiance Ritual Glow Mask

Just this week, vegan, cruelty-free and sustainably driven beauty brand Luneia have launched a brand new product to act as a mini facial. The Radiance Ritual Glow Mask is made of gentle liquid exfoliants that smooth the skin’s surface and decongests pores.

Luneia have invested a lot of time & resources to ensure the sustainability of their products. The tube is made from 50% recycled bottles and reclaimed ocean plastic, whereas the box uses vegetable inks for the print and uses no glue (to ensure it’s fully recyclable).

New Brand, Q+A Skincare, Hits Shelves

The new Norfolk based brand offers 13 products in its range, including face masks and eye serums. Whilst many of their products are vegan, certain moisturiser emulsions contain beeswax so be sure to check the label. Aside from that, all their products are cruelty-free and cost £12 or less!
