Looking for a beauty advent to cheer you up this Christmas? Let me help you figure out which ones are vegan and cruelty-free! It still feels way too early, but Beauty Advents have started hitting the market so I thought it was a good time to start my annual Vegan Beauty Advent list. This is a guide to help you find vegan and cruelty free advents and also warn you of the ones which you thought could be but aren’t (found at the bottom of this post).

Vegan Beauty Advents

Holland & Barrett

Holland & Barrett has unveiled its beauty advent calendar for 2020 – and it’s 100% vegan! Want to check out the contents? Watch my unboxing below:

Their 25 Days of Natural Beauty Advent Calendar will be on sale for £40 (and worth £170!) online and in stores across the UK from 14 September 2020. It’ll feature 14 full-sized items and 11 sample sizes – quite a nice balance to be honest!

MARKS AND SPENCERS

M&S have a lot of own brand vegan and cruelty products and I’m super happy to see that their 12 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar Gift Set* is suitable for vegans this year! Whilst it costs £70 (a bit of a rip off to be honest!) at time of writing it’s been reduced to £35 which is a good price for this calendar. It includes 12 mini makeup and beauty products including nail polish, makeup and fragrance – a fun mix!

Freedm Street

Freedm Street* (previously known as The Cruelty Free Beauty Box) have launched an advent that is cruelty-free, vegan and plastic free. It’s actually not *just* a beauty advent either, it also includes lifestyle products, snacks and 3 doors are ‘good deeds’ instead of products. You can learn more about what’s included in the advent here.

I love this spin on an Advent – still super indulgent but without being wasteful (let’s be honest, do any of us need 24 full sized beauty products in the run up to Christmas?)

The calendar costs £149, is worth over £300 and you can secure yours now with a £50 deposit, with the rest of the payment being due at the start of October. Click here to shop and read more*.

The Pip Box

The Pip Box, best known for their vegan beauty subscription service, celebrate each Christmas with a vegan beauty advent. Priced at £89 but with over £300 worth of goodies, they’re expecting a sell-out. There are just 200 calendars remaining, be quick to make sure you don’t miss out.

Whilst all their products are vegan, they tend to include cruelty-free products with non cruelty-free parent companies (eg Aveda who are owned by Estée Lauder). So this is not one to purchase if you like to avoid parent companies, I’m afraid!

GREENER Beauty

This Greener Beauty vegan and cruelty-free advent is a little kinder to the planet: it’s 90% plastic free with no single use plastics! It contains 29 natural beauty products of which 23 are full size. Plus the total value of this calendar – including donations to charities, gift vouchers and edible goodies – is over £350 but retails for just £129.99. They’re super transparent about the eco steps taken, you can read more here.

Superdrug

You can always trust Superdrug to launch vegan friendly beauty advents each year. Their makeup advents don’t include makeup from their own brand B. range but instead their own brand Studio London:

You can often find these advents reduced by 50% in sales in the run up to Christmas:

ELF

ELF, the 100% vegan and cruelty free makeup and skincare brand have launched a 12 Day Advent Calendar this year: THE E.L.F.TASTIC 12 DAY ADVENT CALENDAR. This calendar is full of ELF makeup including some amazing best-sellers: Poreless Putty Primer, Ride or Die Lip Balm, Bite-size Eyeshadow and Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow.

The one downside so far? It’s not quite clear what this advent looks like from the images online.

Lush

The Lush Advent Calendar is available to preorder for a whopping £185. They’ve already confirmed that it’ll be 100% vegan (wonderful news!) and you can expect it to include some special exclusives. The advent is available to preorder ready for a November delivery – if you’re keen you’ll need to be fast cos these always sell out.

CALENDARS THAT ARE *NOT* VEGAN

There are some calendars that you would have just expected to be vegan friendly but sadly aren’t. Here’s a round up:

  • The Body Shop. They launched 3 advent calendars. Not one was vegan. Appalling. [read more here]
  • Jo Malone is not cruelty free, so nor are their advent calendars.
  • The Bare Minerals 24 Days of Clean Beauty advent is not vegan (some products contain beeswax). Whilst Bare Minerals are (company level) cruelty-free, they’re owned by animal-testing L’Oreal (aka not cruelty-free parent company level)
  • L’Occitane is not cruelty free, so nor are their advent calendars.
